For those interested, it looks like more will be shared at convention! THIS is the oil used in the Bladder Cancer study!
Bladder Cancer Study- Young Living Oil
Posted by: | CommentsYoung Living Frankincense used in Promising Study
Young Living’s frankincense essential oil was recently featured in an independent study* from BioMed Central. Researchers used Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ frankincense to test its reaction when exposed to certain types of cells. The results are encouraging, and will hopefully lead to further research and options for those suffering from various health issues. The findings were published online in the British Medical Council journal Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

This exciting information was just announced…. We have heard the study results before- But being involved with a company with this quality of essential oils makes me excited and proud. Please let folks know that there are many ways to health. Essential oils just happen to be among the oldest. Modern medicine is learning (and admitting) that the old ways really do work.

Early Allergy Season
Posted by: | CommentsIn Texas- our allergy season is starting early due to the warm days we have been having (we have already hit 90!)
Soooo- here is what the Doctors are saying to do… View this video Clip from WFAA
Basically they say to start your meds 2 weeks early and drink lots of water! The extra water they talk about is to compensate for the drying effect of the antihistamine or decongestant that you may be taking.
We agree on two things- lots of water and starting early- however, I suggest trying to boost your intake of vitamin C – including bioflavinoids like quercetin. More minerals are also needed due to the stress that allergies put on the system.
The allergy itself is an immune imbalance problem- or perhaps better described as an overactive immune system. Chirpractors say they have had great results with reducing allergic response when the spine is in allignment. Be sure to work with your chiropractor through this sort of issue.
The vitamin C family can help to boost the immune system and having a good general dose of vitamins and minerals helps to bring the systems into balance. Be sure to find a C supplement that has the family of bio-flavinoids in it. You want to be sure you have Quercetin. As a separate supplement, quercetin is often found with bromelain- the enzyme found in pineapple. Magnesium is also important and most of us need more… because it is so important to so many metabolic functions and is not included in fertilizers for our food. We deplete magnesium in sweating, stress, allergic responses, etc. also many other elements can easily replace the magnesium, leaving our bodies with a poor substitute that cannot be used… or worse, stopping a cellular activity that is essential to our health.
The sinus infections that result from allergies are a slightly different issue. Mucus builds up in the sinuses and possibly the rest of the respiratory tract because of the immune response, then the extra mucus becomes a nice moist environment for the growth of fungus, bacteria or viruses that cause a sinus infection.
For thousands of years, some cultures have been rinsing the sinuses as a daily practice. These people do not have sinus infections the way we do here in America. I am a proponent of the neti pot to rinse the sinuses and I make a salt mixture that includes essential oils. I add this to the water with which I rinse my sinuses. This provides relief from the extra mucus, and reduces the potential for sinus infections. Whenever I have been in an overly dry room, work in the garden, spend a lot of time outdoors, etc., I rinse the sinuses to remove any small particles that may become an irritant… this includes pollen, dust, leaf mold, pet dander. In this way, I have virtually eliminated the chronic sinus infections that I once had.
I am working on the regulatory process to be able to offer to you the salt mixture that I have used so successfully to eliminate the irritating runnies during allergy season and beyond. Use the contact form to email me and ask about this salt mixture.
U @ 50 – Lost Generation – Video Competetion
Posted by: | CommentsThis is an excellent project-
At a meeting of the AARP (American Assoc. of Retired People) they
showed a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20 yr old.
The contest was entitled ‘u @ 50′. This video actually won second place.
When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and
broke into spontaneous applause.
It is so simple and yet so brilliant.
Take a minute and forty-four seconds to watch it.
Gut Health
Posted by: | CommentsThose of you who know me, know that I often talk about the health of the digestive system as being the foundation for good health…. Here is a great article by an expert about the issue:

Gut Health — THE Health Topic of the Coming Decade
James LaValle, R.Ph, ND, CCN
For the last several years I have been emphasizing the importance of reducing belly fat, but just as important is getting one’s gut into shape on the inside. What I’m talking about is intestinal health.
Antibiotics and probiotics are two key players here. Antibiotics wipe out friendly flora in our intestines. This was clearly demonstrated in a study of patients taking the popular broad spectrum antibiotic Ciprofloxacin, commonly known as “Cipro”, which wiped out about 30% of the patients’ good bacteria population. After treatment, it took up to four weeks to re-establish the original level of healthy bacteria, but some strains took up to six months or longer to re-establish.1
While antibiotics are sometimes necessary to kill dangerous bacteria such as Strep and E. coli, they have historically been over prescribed. Many of us are all too familiar with the pink bubble-gum flavored medicine we took as children. As adults we may have begged our doctors for a magic fix in the midst of a bad cold, hoping to ward off a sinus infection. Little did we know the consequences.
In children, frequent use of antibiotics is especially dangerous when it begins at an early age. For instance, children who had been on antibiotics their first year of life had a significantly higher risk of developing asthma by the age of 7 and this risk increased with each additional round of antibiotics.2 The overuse of antibiotics has also destroyed people’s intestinal and immune health and led to the creation of “superbugs” like MRSA.
And if doesn’t stop there. Without good bacteria to protect the gut, other bad bacteria such as those that cause foodborne illnesses are more able to take hold in the gut.
The importance of probiotics and their positive effects on the immune system cannot be over-emphasized. I wrote about this topic in my book Cracking the Metabolic Code, and for 20 years I lectured on, wrote about, discussed, and cajoled both patients and health professionals alike on this topic. Unfortunately, many of them looked at me like I had two heads.
We are now experiencing the many negative effects of our health care system’s failure to pay attention to this area of health — untold problems with opportunistic infections in hospitals, increased problems with autoimmunity, asthma, allergies, and increased gastrointestinal diseases and conditions. Even cancer risk increases when we don’t pay attention to our gastrointestinal health and the balance of gut flora.
But there is good news. Over the last decade there has been a groundswell of research in this area, and so finally, conventional medicine is starting to recognize the role that beneficial flora plays in our health. Scientists are now looking to replace antibiotics with probiotics to both prevent and cure certain diseases.3
Here are some examples of how probiotics have been shown to be helpful in the treatment of serious medical conditions:
- In the treatment of diarrhea, probiotics help crowd out diarrhea-causing bacteria like E. coli and Clostridium difficile.
- Probiotics increase the secretion of IgA, an intestinal immunoglobulin that helps fight infections and prevent allergies.4
- Probiotics have been shown to both prevent4 and improve symptoms of inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.5,6
- Probiotics help lower the risk of getting cancer in several ways.7,8
A big lesson has finally been learned, and it has been such an important one that medicine is about to be changed forever. That’s why I predict this health issue — gut microflora preservation and balance — is set to become the biggest topic of the coming decade. In fact you will probably hear so much about it, you will get sick of it. But in all honesty, it is a very good thing, because it should lead to many positive changes.
So for most people, the inclusion of a probiotic in their supplement regimen is a really good idea. Be sure to choose one that is non-dairy cultured and guarantees the number of live active cultures at any point — in other words not just at the time of production.
Fermented foods like kefir, sauerkraut, and tempeh can also be helpful. See Laura’s article for more on how fermented foods can improve intestinal health.

Sensitivity or Allergy to Essential Oil- Which is it?
Posted by: | CommentsSensitivities to Essential Oils
by David Stewart, PhD, DNM
There are a couple of ways one can be sensitive to essential oils, but an allergic reaction is not one of them.
Allergies are erroneous immune responses to proteins, peptides, and amino acids – all nitrogen compounds, none of which are found in essential oils.
You can have an allergic reaction to a vegetable oil such as olive, corn, peanut, walnut, almond, etc.,
since these are cold pressed and can contain small amounts of proteins. For example, occasionally a person can develop an allergy to an oil blend such as Valor, which is sold by Young Living. The allergy is not due to the essential oils of spruce, frankincense, rosewood, and blue tansy in the blend. It is due to the almond oil in the blend. So read your labels. What may appear to be an allergic reaction to a blend of essential oils may be due to a carrier oil contained in the blend.
You can also have an allergic reaction to citrus oils
which are cold pressed from the rind. However, while we refer to citrus oils such as orange, lemon, lime, and grapefruit as “essential oils,” strictly speaking they are not. By definition, a true essential oil must be steam distilled, not expressed.
There are also oils extracted by solvents…
such as onycha, jasmine, and neroli. Strictly speaking, they too are not true essential oils.
Hence, sensitivities to essential oils, in the sense of allergic reactions, are not possible. Allergic sensitivities are due to the body developing antibodies in response to certain nitrogenous molecules. No one has ever found antibodies in humans from essential oils. So if one has a reaction to an essential oil, it is something else. Not an allergy.
Hot Oils
There are oils that are naturally hot, such as oregano, thyme, mountain savory, cinnamon, cassia, and a few others. This is because of their phenolic compound content which cleanses our cells and paves the way to healing. Such oils can be taken internally via capsules or applied to the skin directly with caution or diluted with a fatty oil.
If burning or irritation occurs to the skin from such oils, promptapplication of a vegetable oil layered over the essential oil will take care of the problem in short order.
The same thing applies if you get an essential oil in your eyes or if you swallow a hot oil, like oregano, and it burns your mouth and throat. Don’t use water, use a vegetable oil for immediate relief. Pour it directly in the eyes or take it orally if your mouth or throat are affected.
Detox Reactions
As for sensitivities to essential oils that produces a skin ash or other allergic-like symptoms such as headaches or nausea, this is always a detox reaction. While allergic reactions get worse and worse with each exposure to the offending substance (allergen), detox reactions eventually get less and less severe with each exposure to an essential oil until it disappears completely once the toxins are cleared from the system.
When one has a detox reaction from an essential oil (which is a good thing), they need to back off from using oils for a while and increase their water intake and, perhaps, get into a cleansing routine for a month or so, going light on the use of essential oils for a while. What is happening in this kind of sensitivity is that the oils are detoxing too rapidly for the colon and kidneys to handle so the toxins come out through the skin as the third avenue for excretion. It is better to keep the rate of detox down to levels that are flushed out through the kidneys and colon, if possible.
Emotional Sensitivities
In rare cases, a person can react to a perfectly pure therapeutic grade essential oil as if it were an allergen or a toxin, but in reality the
response is neither an allergy nor a detox. It is something else.
Another kind of sensitivity to essential oils has to do with emotions.
In cases of extreme unresolved grief, which can be due to the loss of a loved one or other circumstances, one can become sensitive to anything, even the most harmless of things. In extreme cases, people can become universal responders, reacting to almost everything in what appears to be an allergic reaction. This malady is sometimes referred to as “Extreme Chemical Sensitivity” (ECS) or “Environmental Illness” (EI).
In such cases, some people have been known to react in an allergy-like fashion to even the purest of essential oils, such as those sold by Young Living.
But healing from such an illness does not come by treating it as an allergy, because it is not an allergy in the classical sense. It is a spiritual-emotional disease and must be dealt with at that level.
The spiritual and symbolic message in this sort of reaction is that the individual is so depressed, unhappy, and unwilling to accept life as it has been given to them that they are rejecting all of creation and, thus, react negatively to everything. There is a scriptural reference to this in Proverbs 17:22, “A broken spirit dries the bones.”
The basis of our immune system is in the marrow of the bones where the T-cells and other white corpuscles are formed. Allergies and other environmental or chemical sensitivities are due to malfunctions of the immune system at the level of the white corpuscles (leucocytes). Hence, this Bible verse is actually referring to a negative autoimmune response originating in the bones caused by an individual’s rejection of the world around them stemming from extreme grief or a broken spirit.
The solution to this spiritually rooted illness is to recognize the source of the grief, accept it, and deal with it. When that is done, the sensitivities disappear, usually within a few days and sometimes overnight. Applying selected essential oils for emotional purposes can assist in revealing and releasing the buried feelings that underlie such a malady.
Adulterated Oils
There is one other source of sensitivity that may be blamed on essential oils and that has to do with perfume and food grade oils. True therapeutic grade essential oils are grown organically, harvested in proper ways and times, distilled gently at minimum temperatures and pressures, and bottled without any ingredients removed or added. All of the essential oils sold by Young Living are therapeutic grade oils. However, the vast majority of aromatic oils sold in retail stores and other places are perfume or food grade oils.
A true therapeutic grade essential oil contains hundreds of compounds, all of which are necessary in a proper balance for them to possess healing power. Since only a few of these compounds contribute significantly to aroma and/or taste, when essential oils are used for fragrances or flavors, the only compounds that matter to commercial users are the ones that have smell or taste. In some cases, this involves only 2 or 3 compounds in an oil, and the manufacturers and users don’t care if these compounds are natural or synthetic so long as the smell and taste are there and the cost is cheap.
Hence, fragrance and food grade oils are always incomplete in their composition, containing only part of the chemical profile of a complete therapeutic grade oil. Furthermore, they are usually adulterated with synthetic compounds or diluted with petrochemicals to increase their volume and profitability.
One can have reactions to such oils, but these are not reactions to true essential oils. Such reactions are due to the adulterants in the oil. They are not caused by the natural essential oil components of the oil.

So there you have it. As to what you should do in a given situation where sensitivities are encountered, you will have to decide.
If you want a more detailed discussion on essential oils, reactions to them, and allergies, my book, THE CHEMISTRY OF ESSENTIAL OILS MADE SIMPLE, has a lengthy discussion of the subject. It is available from Essential Science Publishing, Abundant Health, and other sources. Hope this helps.

Because of the nature of distillation by heat, steam, and water, that true essential oils must undergo, they do not contain the necessary compounds to trigger allergies because these compounds do not pass through the distillation process.
Essential Oils Beat Pink Eye!
Posted by: | CommentsHere is a Real Life Experience with Pink Eye and Essential Oils!
Over the holidays we went to my brother’s house where they had been passing around pinkeye and a bacterial infection. They had been to the doctor several times, antiobotics, eyedrops, etc. They were concerned about us coming for fear that we would catch it. I put Thieves oil on our feet and a lavendar dilution around our eyes. We spent 2 days and one night. My sister-in-law called said that her family that had come had gotten both infections and wanted to know if we had gotten sick. Of course, we had not! My nephew came home with red eyes and she thought “here we go again”, she put the solution on him and the next morning he was perfectly clear. She has requested Thieves oil in a 55 gallon drum (lol) and more pinkeye solution.
I heard that Texas is having the worst cases of flu already, the stomach bug is going around and the weather is causing allergies to go haywire. Music and Health
Posted by: | CommentsI have this friend who is brilliant. She is so brilliant that sometimes Idon’t get it. Her background is varied but focusses mainly on music…. Classical Music.
I never realized (until she started educating me) that music has such a profound impact on our lives. Now that I think about it, that makes total sense. Since our lives and the world are energetic and made up basically of electrons acting at varying frequencies, it makes total sense that the frequencies of the sounds we listen to would impact our health, our learning, and our mood.
Classical music has been shown to ease moods, increase intelligence, calm overactivity, and increase health. On the other hand, hard core acid rock has been shown to make mice into murdering cannibals— really!
Cynthia Wunch is my friend’s name and to learn more about the scientific research on music that she reviews and her practical applications to our lives and health, look here. Cynthia Wunch- The Unlikely Entrepreneur
There are some great articles in there about something so basic as sound that impacts us profoundly – yet we fail to pay attention.
A note about Cynthia — Cynthia Wunsch provides piano and voice lessons in the North Dallas area and Plano. HER style of piano lessons gets you started with basic classical pieces rather than those booring tortuous scales… you will be rewarded quicker and retain what you learn. http://www.wikyblog.com/CynthiaWunsch/

Oils of the Biblical Era
Posted by: | CommentsEssential oils were used extensively in Biblical times. We all have heard of the gifts of Frankincense and Myrrh to the baby Jesus. Why would these be gifts for a king?
We know now that the oils of Frankincense and Myrrh are highly anti microbial. Meaning that they would have been used as medicines and assure the health of this new born, as these oils were used for assuring the health of many children born to nobility in that era.
Even today, families in the middle east continue to use the frankincense crystals as remedies for common ailments. The crystals of frankincense resin are kept in water, and the molecules disperse in the water. When someone feels like they are coming down with something, they drink from the water and fill up the container to replenish the supply.
Frankincense was and is still used in many religious ceremonies because is has the ability to stimulate the amygdala, the seat of our emotions. Science is also proving that the emotions are a critical factor that allows our thoughts to manifest. (Of course that goes for good thoughts as well as bad- and that is another topic although you can see how oils can help in meditation and spiritual practices.)
Myrrh is a heavier oil and historically has been applied on the placenta to prevent “evil spirits” from traveling to or from mother and child. The oil was also used to lubricate the perineum to help prevent tears during childbirth. Having a supply of myrrh oil would have been appreciated by Mary for her own safety and comfort as well as for the health of her child.
Myrrh was and is still used as a perfume base to keep the lighter flowery oils stabilized. The lighter the oil, the shorter the aroma will last; the addition of a heavier oil will help the scents to linger longer for our enjoyment and health.
