Colds and flu are caused by viruses rather than bacteria yet we take our children to the Dr. and they get an antibiotic.

The Centers for Disease Control now say DO NOT take your child for antibiotics when they have the flu or a cold because the over use of antibiotics is contributing to the development of antibiotic resistant strains of disease organisms.

Likewise, research shows that the flu shot is not significantly decreasing deaths among elderly due to respiratory issues.  This is because the deaths are not due to flu, they are due to pneumonia, which is something that can easily set in when the immune system is down, the water levels in the body are low, and the person does not get up and move around to allow the lungs to breathe deeply and clear out mucous.  Excess mucous provides a nice moist nutrient-rich environment for viruses, bacteria, and fungi to grow.
