The ancients believe that we store the residues of our emotions inside our bodies… anger in the liver, grief in the lungs for example.

There are many reasons to believe that this is true.   If you have not watched “What the Bleep do We Know?”  you should rent or buy it…  the film has great animations that coincide withthe emotions displayed byt hte actors.  It shows how the chemical processes occur within the body upon stimulation by an emotion.

From the receptor site article, we know that when we are happy we produce endorphions which help keep that uplifted feeling; exercise helps us produce endorphins too.

Contrarily, when we are traumatized, stressed or angered, we produce an abundance of cortisol, a substance that is very acidic and corrosive in our bodies.  We need lots of anti oxidants to help our bodys from the degeneration that can ensue from these emotional turmoils.

When you then think of the way our bodies process energy within our cells, we can easily imagine how the acids that generate free radicals can also lead to deterioration of cells and when these damaged cells reproduce, we eventually get a “lifestyle” disease.   Maybe the amange is caused byt he acids from stress or trauma, maybe we eat tooo much acid causing food, maybe we are exposed to chemicals that act like acids in our bodies.  Whatever the cause(s) – of course there will be more than one- we must become mindful of the damage we are doing to ourselves and take some steps to make changes.

Essential oils act on many levels, as solvents, they can cause stored acid compounds to become dislodged and removed via water transport throught one of the avenues of elimination (sweat, urine, feces, breath)   As fragrances, essential oils have the ability to uplift our spirits and to banish stored emotions… we call this emotional clearing.   It is not always a sudden event… it is more often quite subtle as a person begins to use calming oils such as lavender, cleansing oils such as oregano and thyme in the Raindrop technique or uplifting oils such as the precious frankincense.
